DSA an act of punishing people without trial: Zafrullah

Shawdesh Desk:

Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Zafrullah Chowdhury on Thursday alleged that Digital Security Act was an act of punishing people without trial.

He said this at a press conference at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhaka and termed the act undemocratic and unethical.

‘Digital Security Act is tantamount to killing people without trial…It is an act in which people are punished without trial. The politicians should be tolerant. They should endure criticism,’ he said.

Zafrullah also alleged that the government itself was corrupt and blind at its own faults.

He also said that ‘the government was snatching people’s right to self-determination and human rights.’

The government’s behaviour is directing the country in the wrong way,’ he alleged.

Mentioning the recent cases filed against former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union vice-president Nurul Haq Nur and being harassed by the police, he said that Nur might face trial if he had committed any offence, but none can harass him.

The GK trustee also said that students take to the streets when the country faces a serious crisis.

Zafrullah said that the quota reform movement activists wanted reformation of the freedom fighter quota system in government jobs and the student movement in 2018 demanded safe roads for all.

He said that both the issues were for people’s interests adding, ‘You, the government, can honour the freedom fighters in different ways. They, the freedom fighters, deserve honour.’

Zafrullah also criticised India’s role in onion export and alleged that the friendship between Bangladesh and India was ‘one-sided’ as India never considered the interests of Bangladesh.
